Conversations in Six

NOVEMBER 9 / 10

7 PM AT THE PRINCE GEORGE PLAYHOUSE

Conversations in Six is a two-night evening performance series featuring six works of choreography by established Canadian contemporary dance artists. These six works form a unique perspective on what it is like to work in response to, and in collaboration with, dance artists from North-Central BC.

Thursday Night Performance

Adrift/ High Tide Low Tide Choreographed by Amber Downie-Back

Liminal Mappings Choreographed by Gwynne Bilski

Untitled Choreographed by Melissa mcCracken

Friday Night Performance

Behind Veiled Eyes - Choreographed by Giselle Liu

A MATTER OF DEVIANCE - Choreographed by Cai Glover

It’s a matter of deviance; we can have these bodily signs that expose something unusual about the signifier. Something apart, something a part of us that is inextricable and yet exposes a decided upon moral status within the routines of social intercourse. And we are forced to wear it, this stigma, like a backpack full of unknown and unnecessary weight.

This rash of influence

An inflection in the way I walk

Like high heels but without the confidence of sound

Locked fingers and dirty fingertips

A candid tipping towards the deep end

But

Like so many knives, dulled by over-use

I am like so many lives, dulled by over-use

Cutlery in the kitchen sink

Here It Is - Choreographed by Anya Saugstad

‘Here it is’ is a new work created in response to a fear of death. It acknowledges our brief existence, and the longing and pain we hold in a world where we leave one at a time. This work started in Vancouver as a duet but has been adapted and expanded for Method Dance with a four person cast.

“That we are made to die, one at a time, here in the first draft of existence—that is the pain and the longing. That is the beautiful.” (Sheila Heti from the book Pure Colour).

We are excited to announce that our first show will take place this November 2020!

Our inaugural performance Bodies in Isolation will premier November 26th at Theatre Northwest. Due to COVID constrictions there are only a limited number of tickets on sale.

COVID-19 has dramatically shifted the ways in which we think about our identities, particularly our physical and digital bodies. Bodies in Isolation is a contemporary dance performance that navigates the conversations around bodies in space in a time of isolation. As dancers, daughters, mothers, and women - the pandemic has transformed our realities. In this performance, choreographer Shelby Richardson and Method dancers explore the ways in which our physical and virtual identities have shifted in response to social isolation and the heavy digitization of our identities during the pandemic.

Showtimes:
