POST-SECONDARY DANCE EDUCATION FOCUSED ON CAREER DEVELOPMENT THROUGH A PRACTICED-BASED CURRICULUM β¦
Designed to support growth as a dancer and artist, this program prepares students for the diverse demands of a professional career in the performing arts.
Our two-year program offers emerging and mid-career dancers a unique blend of intensive training, mentorship, and community engagement. Students will train an average of 20+ hours a week in the full time program with additional hours for mentorship, performance and community outreach. Physical training and repertoire will focus on a wide variety of contemporary practice, technique, and creative exploration.
The program covers essential skills like health and wellness, audio-visual production, and financial planning. We connect students with mentors from across the country in order to develop their own creative projects, from concept to performance, while actively engaging with community.
Applications will open in early Spring with intake interviews both in person and online.
Method gratefully acknowledges the many individuals who have come together to support the creation of this program and its curriculum including Dr. Lisa Dickson, Andrea Downie, Twylla Hamelin, Calder White, Dance West Networkβs Dr. Jane Gabriels and Deborah Gordon, Natalie Lefebvre Gnam, Jenn Edwards, Robbyn Scott, Marco Esccer, Kallee Lins, Jenna Magrath, Katie Wertz, Lauren Fisher, and the many others who have contributed to its development.
Program Duration and Flexibility
The Junction is designed to be completed in full within one year, offering an immersive and intensive experience for emerging dance artists. However, we recommend that students who are concurrently enrolled in university or other academic programs consider completing The Junction over two years. This flexible model ensures students can fully engage with the curriculum while balancing external academic commitments and personal well-being.
In order to complete the program, participants must complete the minimum 295 program hours to complete the program.
Physical Practice Flexibility
Outside of MDS Company and Open Classes, students may complete their physical practice hours at any approved studio, venue, or training program that aligns with their goals and is approved by their mentor. This flexible model supports students in maintaining existing relationships with their previous training facilities and local teachers, while also allowing them to explore new environments and styles that complement their individual practice.
