POST-SECONDARY DANCE EDUCATION FOCUSED ON CAREER DEVELOPMENT THROUGH A PRACTICED-BASED CURRICULUM

The Junction is a 2-year dance education program built on providing students with the foundational skills to build a career in contemporary dance arts. Curriculum will be based in rigorous training, creative mentorship, career development, and certification. The curriculum is designed and led by dance practitioners in the professional community from across Canada.

Full-time and Part-Time Programs for dancers who have completed high-school or their studio-based training programs.

  • Globally recognized educators and artists

    • We are developing a unique model for network-based faculty and guest educators. This model will provide students with access to educators from across Canada and beyond in order to ensure high-quality learning and development.

  • International workshops and residencies

    • The program will facilitate participation in international workshops and residencies as an essential component of the program.

  • Career development and performance opportunities

    • Mentorship and performance opportunities are central components of the programs. Students will have opportunities to develop their own work, as well as perform works from guest choreographers and faculty.

Classes will run from September to May from 9 AM to 2:30 PM with occasional rehearsal on weekends for upcoming performances.

Students can expect to leave the program with comprehensive understanding of a career trajectory in contemporary dance including relevant certifications, professional practice in rural AND urban settings, contemporary dance methods, choreography, and a global network of professional practitioners.

We will be prioritizing relationships with local and regional dance studios in order to provide opportunities for staff to explore professional development and training opportunities.

The Junction program is being developed in collaboration with post-secondary educators from across Canada, including Simon Fraser University, the University of Calgary, and the University of Northern British Columbia.
